Yesterday I reached into my pocket for change and pulled out a quarter-sized ring with a leaf cut out in the middle. On the front it’s inscribed ‘New Beginnings Blessing Ring;’ on the back ‘Trust and Believe.’ I have no idea how it got there.
This morning, what I hope will be the new beginning of two new habits:
First, I started my practice before opening my computer. Triumph!
I sat for a half hour, then did my asana practice and sat a little more. How much quieter my mind was without the automatic dose of stimulation from news and emails.
Then just as I opened my computer to launch my day, my dad skyped me. Normally I would have gone ahead checking emails, multi-tasking while I spoke to him. But this time I stopped, closed my email, and focused on the conversation.
And the practice unfolds: one breath, one conversation, one habit at a time.
